Oh, how the time has flown by since my last post. I cannot believe that it has been 2 years already!!
Let me try to put the last 2 years activities into a short nutshell for you, so that it isn't too boring.
In my first post, I explained that I had just completed an aupair course. Well, a few months after that, I got a job through a really good agency (mail me if you would like their details). I looked after the most precious little baby, Keira. She was 4 months old at the time. I was only working for them for about 3 months when the mother received a promotion and had to move to Johannesburg. They wanted myself and my husband to move up with them and were willing to pay the costs as well as give me a large monthly increase because they didn't want to lose me.
To be honest, I was really tempted and almost did go. But with much deliberation, Julian and I decided that it wasn't the best decision for us. I did end up going for 10 days to help out while they found another Aupair. It was a wonderful experience as well as a frightening one at the same time. On my first night in Johannesburg, someone tried to break into our house and I was woken up to the sound of my boss banging on my door at 3am in the morning making sure that I was alright (since I was sleeping through all the commotion). The house and garden were full of South Africa's finest police officers with flash lights. Needless to say, I couldn't wait to get back home after that scenario.
After saying goodbye's to Keira and the family, I was flying back to Cape Town eager to see Julian again.
I went without work for about 2 months before I got offered the position I'm at now. I can honestly give all Glory to God for the job I have now. The way I got it is a testimony to God's wonderful provision in my life.
The agency that I'm with set up an interview for me with a family that has 2 small toddlers. I went to the interview, met the parents and had a wonderful meeting. They interviewed more people and then narrowed it down to 2 candidates, myself and another girl. They ended up giving the position to the other candidate (which I am secretly grateful for because 2 toddlers are alot of work). About a week later I received a call from the father of the toddlers telling me that they went with the other lady, but his business partner is looking for an aupair so would I be interested? I said yes, but obvioulsly they had to go through the agency because I was registered with them. The agency gave me a call, we set up an interview date and off I went. I met up with the mother and little girl that I was to look after and the interview went really well. Alda, the mother, told me that her business partner was really torn between myself and the other candidate, but obviously could only choose one. She said that he is usually a very hard man to please so for him to recommend someone meant that that person is really good. She ended the interview offering me the job and cancelling all future interviews the agency had lined up for her.
I started the job a couple weeks later and haven't looked back. I look after a really wonderful little girl, Crystal, she is 10 years old. I have been with this family for almost a year and am really happy. I only work half days as I fetch her after school and come home in the evenings, I work full days in the holidays. I am not a live-in aupair as I am married. I go into work every day and come back home when my day is finished.
I will put up more posts about child care as well as write about my experiences with Crystal, whether there are challenges that rise or just about the joys we have together.
Please send me questions of anything that you need to know about. I love answering questions and you can be sure I will answer accurately. I will make sure I do my research before answering. I'm going to do some research on products that are good for babies all the way through to toddlers so keep a look out for that.
